There are two versions of Mercedes-Benz CL AMG: one with a 525-hp V8 engine ( "63 AMG") and another with a V12, 612 hp (65 AMG "). At first, only 40 units will be constructed of CL 65 AMG.
The most powerful Mercedes-Benz CL AMG is distinguished from the other - in addition to the engine-by leading a special exterior paint, alloy wheels of a specific design of 20 inches, interior leather sole and a sport suspension with a different setting.
Mercedes-Benz CL AMG
The version "63 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG" has the same naturally aspirated engine of the S 63 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG: an eight-cylinder in 'V', placed lengthwise and with a displacement of 6,208 cm ³.
The Mercedes-Benz CL AMG versions of the E-Class and CLS have the same engine, albeit with modifications (Mercedes-Benz has not communicated what) to less than 11 hp at the same regime, 6,800 rpm. The value of the pair and the regime that succeeds are the same: 630 Nm at 5,200 rpm.
This engine is coupled to automatic transmission speeds of seven, which has a functioning very well. Mercedes-Benz says it takes 4.6 s to reach 100 kph emerging from stationary, the same amount of time needed by the CL 600 (which has a twelve-cylinder turbocharged engine in 'V' and 517 hp).
Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG Interior
BMW M6, with 507 hp, takes the same thing to accelerate to 100 km / h. A Bentley Continental GT (559 hp) needs two more tenths and a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (540 hp) four less. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h.
The CL 65 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG engine carries an adaptation of CL 600, which also has the S 65 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG and Maybach 57 S and 62 S. It remains a V12 with two turbochargers, but with 612 hp instead of 517 hp. Thus, the CL 65 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG becomes the most powerful version of the range of this four-seater coupe.
Mercedes-Benz CL AMG Engine
Mercedes-Benz CL AMG has won power in several ways. The cylinder capacity goes from 5,513 to 5,980 cm ³; diameter and career (82.6 x 93.0) are higher. The absolute maximum pressure for admission is 2.5 bars. Mercedes-Benz CL AMG has had to change the injectors to increase the flow of gasoline and change several pieces to resist properly (pistons are forged).
In addition to maximum power of 612 hp (450 kW), gives 1,000 Nm from 2,000 rpm. Much maximum torque, even if they consider it a 6.0 liter engine pressure.
This coupled to a gearbox automatic five-speed type 'Speedshift', with sequential controls on the steering wheel. With this box, Mercedes-Benz believes an acceleration of 0 to 100 of 4.4 s. The maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. The average consumption is 14.8 l per 100 km.
Among the things that Mercedes-Benz CL AMG has had to change the car to support these engines are the Mangueta, differential and Semi. Like other CL, have active air suspension (ABC), albeit with a harder adjustment.
As usual in these versions Mercedes-Benz CL AMG, suspension and brakes have also been modified. The suspension 'ABC' (Active Body Control) has some settings more sports and the brakes are more powerful. This suspension is that some elements vertically hydraulic pull or push to prevent or limit swinging and pitching.
It is a system with helical springs, not tires, therefore, does not change the resistance of the shock and the elasticity of the pier, as it happens with the Airmatic DC's E-Class and CLS. From what we've seen in the previous S-Class and CL, the functioning of this system is very satisfactory.
The weight of the new CL is greater than the model it replaces. A CL 500 weighs 1,995 kg, 110 kg more than the previous CL 500 or even 55 kg more than the current S 500. The CL 63 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG and 65 Mercedes-Benz CL AMG weighs 2,085 kg and 2,240 kg respectively, are 30 kg lighter than the equivalent versions-long battle with the Class-S.
The body has elements of differentiation over other CL. In front, grilled (with two horizontal chrome blades instead of three) is new and headlamps are dark background instead of silver. It is also the new front bumper, which Includes air intakes wider. The rear also changes in its bottom and there is a diffuser air. The side skirts and tires are other elements that distinguish it.
In the interior, the scenario has new typography and includes a stopwatch. The pedals are metal with rubber points for not slipping. The seats are specific to this release.
The equipment includes a series of protective device "Pre-Safe" that recognizes a potential accident before it occurs, through the signals they send in fractions of a second sensor stability control (ESP). If the arbitrator determines that there may be an accident, sets in motion a series of protective measures for front and rear occupants.
If there is a violent braking or loss of stability by understeer or oversteer, "Pre-Safe" tense front seat belts, moves the front passenger's seat backward, rose backing if it is tilted and automatically closes the sliding roof if open.
